# Reading your analytics

> Which GeoEngage report answers which question, and how visits, conversions and conversion rates are counted.

Everything the widget records ends up in the dashboard's reports. This page says which report answers which question, and how the numbers are counted.

## How it's counted

- **A visit** is one session: it starts with a page view and ends after 15 minutes without activity. A tab left open with nobody using it doesn't keep a visit going or start a new one, and a visit's duration runs to the last thing the visitor did, not to when the tab was closed.
- **A conversion** is a [goal](https://geoengage.app/docs/analytics/goals) completed. Only goals count, so decide what success means on your site first.
- **Conversion rate** is visits with at least one conversion, divided by all visits.
- **Times** are shown in the site's reporting timezone, chosen when you add the site.

Every report follows the site and date range picked at the top of the dashboard.

## Where to look

| Question | Report |
| --- | --- |
| How is the site doing overall? | **Overview** |
| Who's on the site right now? | **Live Globe** |
| Where do visitors come from? | **Traffic Sources** |
| Who are they, and which groups convert better? | **Audience** |
| Which pages work, where do visitors leave, how far do they read? | **Pages** |
| How many visits reach each goal, and how fast? | **Goals** — see [Goals and conversions](https://geoengage.app/docs/analytics/goals) |
| Where do visitors drop out on the way to a goal? | **Funnels** — see [Funnels](https://geoengage.app/docs/analytics/funnels) |
| Is each rule working? Which variant wins? Does personalization pay off overall? | **Rules & A/B Tests** — see [A/B tests](https://geoengage.app/docs/rules/ab-tests) and [Holdouts](https://geoengage.app/docs/rules/holdouts) |
| What do visitors say in ratings? | **Ratings Intelligence** |
| What happened in one particular visit? | **Sessions Explorer** — see [Sessions and replays](https://geoengage.app/docs/analytics/sessions) |
| Which raw events arrived? | **Events Explorer** |
| What do my own events say? | **Custom Events**, for events sent with [`trackEvent()`](https://geoengage.app/docs/widget/methods#trackevent) |
| Which fields exist in the data? | **Data Schema** |
| What should I do next? | **Strategic Report** and **Chat with Data**, which use AI credits from your plan |

## From a report to a rule

The reports that compare groups — **Audience**, a goal's own page under **Goals**, [segments](https://geoengage.app/docs/analytics/segments) — show which visitors convert worse than the rest. That's where personalization pays: target that group with a rule, then check the rule's effect on **Rules & A/B Tests**.

## What's recorded

The widget always records page views, plus whichever of clicks, form submissions and scroll depth are switched on in **Tracking Config**. Scroll depth also measures engaged time, how long each page was visible and in use. Reports show it as engaged time or time on page, and have none while scroll depth is off. Your own code can add [custom events and conversions](https://geoengage.app/docs/widget/methods#tracking). Nothing is recorded in [consent mode](https://geoengage.app/docs/widget/consent) until the visitor accepts.

## Leaving out your own visits

Your own visits count like anyone else's. To leave a browser out, open your site in it, open the browser's console (right-click the page, then **Inspect** and **Console**) and run:

```js
localStorage.setItem('geoengage_ignore', 'true')
```

From the next page load, GeoEngage doesn't run in that browser at all: nothing is recorded and no rule shows, so test rules with the preview in the dashboard. It covers one browser on one site, so repeat it on each device you use. To undo it, run `localStorage.removeItem('geoengage_ignore')` the same way.
