Geo Targetly alternatives for location-based content
What Geo Targetly does well, where it may not fit, and the alternatives worth a look, from free WordPress plugins to personalization you can measure.
Geo Targetly is a solid choice for location jobs on any website: content by location, redirects, location-specific links and popups. People look elsewhere for four reasons: a free option on WordPress or Shopify, targeting by more than location, changing their own page's text rather than adding to it, or proving that a change helped. Here's what fits each.
What Geo Targetly does well
- Many location jobs in one product: content, redirects, links and popups, with every product included on every plan, as its pricing page described it when we checked.
- Precise targeting: by continent, country, state and city, and by IP address or range.
- Any platform: a script for any site, plus a WordPress plugin.
- Pricing by traffic: plans grow with your page views. See Geo Targetly for current prices.
If you need city-level rules or IP-range targeting, it does things GeoEngage doesn't.
The alternatives
| You want | Look at | Why |
|---|
| Free, on WordPress | If-So | A free tier of 250 sessions a month, then paid plans (vendor's figures); conditions in the WordPress editor |
| Free, on Shopify | Shopify Markets | Prices, currencies and languages per country, built into Shopify |
| Popups by location, and an email list | OptinMonster | A popup tool first; location targeting is on its top plan |
| Rules on more than location, with testing built in | GeoEngage | Country, state and timezone together with campaign, device and behavior; A/B tests and holdouts |
| Content by persona or industry | GeoFli | Swaps website content by location, persona or industry |
When GeoEngage is the better fit
- You want to know if it worked. Every rule can run as an A/B test, and a holdout group measures all your rules at once.
- Location is one signal among several. "Visitors from Canada who came from the spring ad, on their first visit" is one rule.
- You'd rather change your page than add to it. Replace a headline's words, swap an image or prefill a form, as well as banners and popups.
It doesn't target by city or IP range, and it doesn't change prices.
How to decide
- List the three rules you'd make first.
- Check each tool can build all three without code.
- Check what each costs at your monthly traffic.
- Run the free trial on your own site, and test one rule properly before you commit.
